Pulled out my old AirPort and made myself a set of AirPlay 2 speakers for my desk. mastodon.emory.coffee/media/Gn

I'm looking forward to taking my little Frankenstein's Camera to Portland next week for it's first outing.

I painted the adapter “photo black” and the contrast in the images is definitely better.
Ideally it would be printed out of a black plastic or even metal. mastodon.emory.coffee/media/on mastodon.emory.coffee/media/Y-

I got to play around with an f/0.95 lens a couple weeks ago. It's easily the one of the least practical lenses I think I've used (large, heavy) but has really nice sharpness and light falloff.

I was testing out my adapter last night and all of a sudden it was out of focus again, for no apparent reason.

Turns out I'd attached the wrong version of the adapter.

The adapter does indeed need to be inset by 0.8 mm. With one final print last night I was able to confirm that the registration is correct!

@pjonori Agreed, for ongoing projects it’s good to keep things consistent. This is why it’s easy to add more projects without necessarily finishing previous ones.

@pjonori I share the sentiment. Having every option under the sun can be a distraction.

On the other hand using something new (or old, or just different) can help you think about how you take photos differently.

For reference, the 80 year old lens: instagram.com/p/BldrHR3FgQL/

@pjonori That's the best part about being able to adapt older lenses to new cameras: you can borrow some of the character.

I have an 80 year old 50mm Leica lens that's given me some of the most fun images I feel I've taken in months.

@pjonori The sensor is fine, no damage done. I’m guessing the back just got really confused about, umm, something… ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ mastodon.emory.coffee/media/nj

I've no idea what was happening during these frames, but they make for some interesting glitch art.

Just for fun, a quick recording of state of the art live view, circa 2008.

After a couple of near misses I think I might have the correct registration offset. The current math says I need to offset the adapter _inside_ the body of the camera.

Pitch: self-driving cars but they're on rails and carry hundreds of people and have an operator and they're called "trains" instead.

I really wish I had a faster prototyping method than 3D printing.

@pjonori I'm glad other people can get something out of my pet project.

I'm constantly amazed at the DIY cameras people build. Though it's rare to see the process behind it.

@pjonori No criticism taken. I'm gaining a new appreciation for camera construction. I have CAD and a 3D printer, I can't imagine doing all of this by hand.

It appears I might have a bit of light leak. Almost as if translucent white plastic isn't the ideal photographic tool.
